National Police Week

Mark your calenders! The official dates for National Police Week 2011 are May 15-21.

The 23rd Annual Candlelight Vigil at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial will take place on Friday, May 13, 2011.

The Candlelight Vigil is traditionally held on May 13th, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls. Every six or seven years, May 13th falls prior to the official start of National Police Week, as it will in 2011.

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15th as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15th falls, as National Police Week determining the dates for National Police Week 2011 — Sunday, May 15th through Saturday, May 21st.

The Peace Officers Memorial Day Service, hosted by the Fraternal Order of Police and the Fraternal Order of Police Auxiliary is always held on May 15th, again, regardless of the day of the week on which it falls.

NLEOMF National Police Week events and activities are supported, in part, by a generous contribution from the Target Corporation.
